1. Background Selam Deaf Charity Association (SDCA) is a community-based organization in Hawassa, Ethiopia, working to empower deaf and vulnerable citizens through skills development, employment creation, and sustainable livelihoods. Poultry farming has been identified as one of the most practical and impactful projects to improve food security, generate income, and create job opportunities for deaf and marginalized community members. 2. Problem Statement Many deaf and vulnerable individuals in Hawassa lack access to sustainable employment and income opportunities. Limited job access results in poverty, social isolation, and dependency. Poultry farming presents an opportunity to create inclusive jobs, provide affordable food (eggs and chicken meat), and strengthen local economic development. 3. Project Objectives • Establish and expand a modern poultry farm managed by SDCA members. • Create sustainable employment opportunities for deaf and vulnerable citizens. • Supply affordable and nutritious poultry products (eggs and chicken) to the local market. • Generate income to strengthen SDCA’s social programs. 4. Planned Activities • Construction and improvement of poultry houses. • Purchasing day-old chicks, feed, and veterinary supplies. • Training deaf members in poultry management and agribusiness. • Marketing and distribution of eggs and chicken meat in Hawassa and surrounding areas. • Establishing partnerships with local businesses, cooperatives, and government. 5. Expected Results • Improved livelihoods for deaf and vulnerable citizens. • Increased supply of affordable eggs and chicken to the community. • A sustainable income stream for SDCA to fund its social programs. • Reduced unemployment and dependency among the target group. 6. Resource Needs • Financial support for poultry inputs (chicks, feed, vaccines). • Technical support and training in modern poultry management. • Market linkages and partnerships. 7. In partnership with us, Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation in the South Center. Selam deaf charity Association in collaboration with the Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Institute South Center has created a job club for the deaf youth to contribute to the development of the deaf community and to encourage them to contribute to the development of the future generation We sincerely thank the deaf for their social development skills, so that they can contribute to our development and contribute to our development.
